Hi Guys. My Savvy is three weeks old. I now have problems with the remote on the key. Today the remote stopped working altogether. I was able to lock the car as per normal. I then went shopping with the keys in my pocket and when I went back to the car the remote would not work. The red light on the remote was working so I doubt the battery would be dead, and the car is only new so battery should have been new also. The other remote works about 70% of the time. And this can be standing right next to the car. The user manual says the remote should work within a distance of approx 10m. Has anyone else had a problem with their keys? I think one remote needs to be re-programmed. The user manual says only the dealer can do this. Is this true? Please help.

Hi Timbo,

As this is the first time that I have heard of this problem on the Savvy before, I suspect that it could be due to the alarm sensor that engages or disenagages the alarm of the car. If I am not mistaken, Savvy's car alarm system is located on the just left of the right suspension mounting and infront of the front firewall. It could be a possible alarm sensor needs to be recalibrated. If you stand close just infront of the left muguard area (front passenger area), you'll may notice that the car alarm engages/disenagages quicker. I done this experiment and it work on my car.

I hope this info helps. :D

Thanks for the info khimfoh. One key works ok. The other key does not work at all now. I even tried with the key under the front as you mentioned and nothing. The red light on the key is working. All I can think of is something has changed the code in the remote and it needs to be re-programmed. I will get it checked at first service which is not far away. They key may even need to be replaced.

I had that happen with my previous car before. The light does come on but nothing else happens. For me, that usually means the battery is weak (despite the light coming on).

Maybe u can just try swapping batteries to see if it works then.

I have a service comming up soon, will get the keys checked then. Could be just a battery problem. Will look to get some good quality batteries in there and see if that helps

I had a similar issue, one of the keys would not always lock or unlock the car. The alarm would chirp twice indicating an error. I also noticed a very reduced range - I had the be right at the door for it to work at all. The red light would light though so this is not a useful indicator of battery status.

I simply replaced the battery in the remote and have had no problems since. Mine was a CR2025 type battery. I can now activate the central locking from 10m away reliably.

I replaced the battery as well with a new battery (expirary date 2013) and unfortunantly it made no difference at all.

You will need to take the key off your key ring (nothing through the plastic loop at the back of the key) and unscrew the screw.

Then you can open the plastic case from the key end. There is a little catch on the plastic loop - it should come open but don't force it.

Inside you will find a board with a rubber cover on one side, lift this out and turn it over and you will see the battery clamped in by a metal bracket.

Use a small object (screwdriver/pen etc) to push the battery out and slide in the new one.

Make sure you put it in the same way.

Then reassemble. put the board back in, locate the catch and fold the plastic case together again and put in the screw.

Hope that helps,
Ash.

I also have the same problems. I need to stand near to driver door or front right tyres area then It can be activated (Unlock the Door).

I had just bear with the alarm since April 2008. I just wait for the alarm device spoil and I will change another better one. Nowadays, alarm are quite cheap. Simply get a low grade or normal alarm, it still better then the original.

Bro, we have to bear will Proton SC.

Hello every one I am going to a dealer this afternoon to find out how to program the key to the alarm.
Unless one of you know how to do it already :?: :!:

The dealer said that it is a vary easy proses and you only need a new battery your car keys and your car offcourse.

If I have one main criticism of Proton it is their remote key system. I've had the circut boards in both remotes changed, I have had to have the system reprogrammed at least 4 times. Last time the car battery went flat and both keys needed reprogramming - and I (half) saw it being done - less than a minutes work for the tech. but the inconvenience is huge! I couldn't see quite how he did it but it is something to do with the buttons on the key and the alarm button on the dash - does anybody out there know the reprogramming sequence? (the tech. did tell me if you do it wrong it can be very bad!).

Remember - Savvy's ROCK!!!! :?
